Abdominoplasty enables the removal of excess fat and skin in the abdominal area region manifesting further rejuvenation. With this surgery, the fat and loose tissue of the abdomen is eliminated and so is the swollen appearance and a more flat belly is formed again.

Abdominoplasty is more frequently encountered in female patients. The reason this is so common is that the muscles on the abdominal wall stretch during pregnancy and lose their flexibility. Abdominoplasty, which is also known as a tummy tuck, is a condition that requires some kind of plastic surgery. It is one of the effective methods for the abdominal area and belly circumference.

Generally, people gain more weight than they should during pregnancy and deformations occur. Elimination of these deformations may not be possible with sports and diet. Therefore you may have to have this surgery.

How is the Surgery done?

The decision to carry out abdominoplasty is made by the doctor after examining the radiological results. Sagging and stretch marked skin is usually removed from the area up to the navel region and the navel is pulled further down. Excess fat in the belly is also extracted with liposuction. The abdominal muscles are tightened and the former appearance is obtained thanks to the collecting sutures on the abdominal walls. Postoperative incisions are eliminated with aesthetic sutures.

Surgery will remove the sagging caused by frequent weight loss and gain and pregnancy. However, you may encounter the same problem again if you do not take care. The surgery varies from person to person. It usually lasts between 3-3.5 hours. If the problem of loose and sagging is not too much, it may take less time.

Recovery Process in Abdominoplasty

Postoperative recovery can vary depending on the patient. You may need to stay in hospital for 1-2 days. After surgery, the patient is dressed in a corset. This corset should be worn without interruption for 1 month. You can walk slowly with assistance a few hours after the surgery is over. You may have pain for a while. It is also a good idea to step carefully to avoid bursting your stitches.

Pregnancy after Surgery

One of the most frequently asked questions that women ask after surgery is will the same things happen after a post operative pregnancy. Abdominoplasty is not a condition that affects  pregnancy. After surgery, you can talk to your doctor about getting pregnant.

It is recommended that patients who want to have this surgery after pregnancy wait at least 1 year. Regular nutrition for the mother and breastfeeding are very important in this sense. After 1 year, you can contact your doctor and get the necessary information about when to have the surgery. Any woman with good health and who does not plan a pregnancy in the future can have this surgery.

Postoperative Considerations

The most important thing to note after surgery is to avoid anything that would strain your abdomen. You must not remove the corset donned by your doctor. You should be careful in this sense, especially when taking a shower and bending down and getting up. The corset will accelerate your healing process. Instead of lying flat on the bed, you should sleep by pulling your legs to your abdomen. In addition, your bed must be orthopedic. You should not take a shower as long as the bandage remains on. You can start taking showers after the bandages are removed.

No exercise is recommended for 2 months postoperatively. If you are doing sports, you will be asked to take a break from sports for a while. You should not do anything to strain yourself. If you comply with the doctor’s instructions and attend your checkups you can gain your former health in a short time.
